Arthritis is nothing but the inflammation of the joints of the body. It is a debilitating disease; a condition which can seriously hampers one's lifestyle and quality of life. It can be a painfully acute condition, or it can continue in a chronic manner, obstructing one's enjoyment of daily life. Mostly, arthritis affects its victims in its chronic phase, as an on again, off again pain in the joints. Overall diet: One should strive to cut out food products derived from animals completely from our diet. Animal products include not just white and red meant, fish and eggs, but also dairy and milk products. This is because the uric acid that is produced when these foods are processed within our bodies can accumulate, as it is very difficult to get rid of. Therefore, extra uric acid will accumulate in joint spaces and cause problems. Upon cutting these food items out of our diets altogether, a definite change can be observed for the better.

Bananas: For three to four days, a diet that consists only of bananas and nothing else has been shown to improve the condition and ease pain. Bananas are known to have a high Vitamin B content, particularly Vitamin B6, which can help relieve pain.

Daily warm oil massages: the emphasis here is on warm and not very hot oil. Coconut or almond oil, mixed with a little bit of camphor, should be massaged on to the aching and affected joints for pain relief. This should be done as regularly as possible, but should be done at least once daily.

Garlic: Texts on Ayurveda are full of praise for this ingredient, which is known for its anti inflammatory properties. Garlic, eaten either raw or cooked, is a powerful agent which assists in reducing the inflammation in the joints.

Raw Potato: Take a raw potato, peel and all. Cut it into slices very thinly. Soak these slices in about a medium sized glass of water overnight. This water should be ingested first thing in the morning. This liquid is supposed to relieve pain caused by arthritis effectively.
