Natural Remedies for Insomnia
Sleep is something we all take for granted. It is one of the most essential ingredients for a healthy and productive life. It is only when one is unable to fall asleep peacefully and regularly, when one discovers the importance of this vital phenomenon. Since sleep is when the body recharges and repairs itself for the next day full of activity, insomnia is one condition that can seriously endanger one's well being and energy level. As the stress levels around us increase and we find ourselves spiraling down a fast paced tunnel called life, more and more people are suffering from insomnia and other sleep disorders, unable to find that very thing which can cure them of stress: adequate rest and sleep. Thus, it is a catch 22 situation; a vicious circle, to break which one must return to Mother Nature and search for the holy grail of health and vitality.
Here, we tell you about certain natural remedies that will help you get that peaceful sleep you so deserve and crave.
Drink a warm glass of milk at bedtime. Although this might seem a little orthodox and like something your grandmother would tell you, it really works. Making this a regular habit will help you enjoy many nights of restful sleep and relaxation. Adding a pinch or two of cardamom powder to your milk can further aid in attaining a peaceful slumber.
As a dessert after dinner, add some roasted and crushed cumin seeds to a mashed banana. Eating this will induce sleep and help you overcome your bout of insomnia. Rauwolfia serpentine is a well known homeopathic remedy to cure insomnia. It can be prescribed by any homeopathic doctor. Being a herbal remedy, it is bound to have none to minimal side effects.
A teaspoon of fresh valerian juice also helps induce sleep. Onion pickle eaten with dinner also is said to help one get a good night's sleep. You can also add a teaspoon of honey to a glass which is filled halfway with celery juice. Fill up the rest of the glass with cold water and drink this natural herbal concoction at bedtime. You will soon find yourself drifting off to a peaceful slumber.
In a litre of freshly boiled water, add a couple of shredded onions and wait till this infusion cools down. To a teaspoon of this concoction, add a few drops of lemon and have this like you would have, say, cough syrup. This remedy helps in regulating the sleep cycle of the body, thereby inducing sleep at a regular time every day.
Crush one nutmeg and divide the powder you obtain into four parts. Have one part every night and continue this treatment till all four parts of the powder are over. After about three nights of this treatment, you will feel yourself drifting off to easy slumber provided that you take this powder at the same time every night.
One of the best things you can do is have chamomile tea. This tea should be had without sugar.
